The top of a partially submerged mountain system, Vancouver Island is the largest island on the Pacific coast of North America. It is part of the Canadian province of British Columbia and is situated near the province's southern border. The straits of Georgia and Queen Charlotte separate the island from the Canadian mainland.

Greater Vancouver has two major ferry terminals; the largest is the Tsawwassen terminal which connects Vancouver with both Nanaimo and Victoria on Vancouver Island. Horseshoe Bay, a slightly smaller terminal, services Nanaimo, Bowen Island and the Sunshine Coast. Both terminals are far enough from the city core that you will need to travel by car or bus to get to them. In terms of bus transportation, the various coach services are recommended over public transit. Public buses to and from the ferry terminals are time-consuming and frustrating.

Vancouver area artist Titania (Bowen Island) invites everyone to the Bowen Island Library on Saturday November 17th to celebrate her new show of paintings – Presence. The exhibit is a collection of her British Columbia Landscapes and florals painted on translucent mylar. Her works will be on display until Saturday, November 30, 2007.
