Into the Music  Morrison's 1979 album In Dublin in May 1986, Van Morrison performed at Self Aid, a benefit concert focused on the problem of chronic unemployment which was widespread in Ireland at that time. The benefit was Ireland's largest ever television audience for a national event up to then and included performances by over thirty acts, including Elvis Costello, Christy Moore and U2. [77]

Avalon Sunset (#91, 1989) contained “Whenever God Shines His Light on Me,” a duet with Cliff Richard that became Morrison’s first British Top 20 single since his days with Them, and “Have I Told You Lately That I Love You,” which in 1993 became a #5 U.S. hit for Rod Stewart.
