Vampires: Humans
built 606 days ago
Vampires are mythological or folkloric beings that subsist on human and/or animal lifeforce. In most cases, they are reanimated corpses who feed by draining and consuming the blood of living beings. In folklore, the term usually refers to the blood-drinking humans of Eastern European legends, but the term is often applied to similar legendary creatures from other regions and cultures. The characteristics of vampires vary widely among these different traditions. Some cultures ... have stories of non-human vampires, including real animals such as bats, dogs, spiders, and mythical creatures such as the chupacabra.

Vampires are much more powerful than human beings, but cannot really touch the might of the killer whale. An effective but underused technique for defeating Vampires is to lure them into the vicinity of a hungry killer whale, possibly on a whale-watching boat or by interesting the undead fiend in marine biology. Sure vampires are undead anyway, but let's face it: killer whales can kill anything. Why else would God name them that?

Vampires in some tales have very specific dietary requirements while others do not. However, most tales of the undead feature vampires that cannot eat (or at least cannot gain nourishment from) normal human food.

Vampires are cursed. They are not alive, but they are not dead. They are undead. They breathe, their hearts beat, they cast reflections in the mirror, they sleep, eat and drink anything they want, and most cannot die easily. They can live forever, have amazing strength and their flesh can be warm and vital...just as long as they have blood...human blood.

Vampires are often at odds with all the living races but are often in conflict with humans as this is their favorite race to feed on and obviously the humans resist. Special animosity is reserved for the dragons as vampires find their blood essence very toxic and this is a weakness many vampires wish to eliminate.

Vampires are creatures ruled by fear, most importantly the fear of exposure to the Kine, everyday humanity. Since the Inquisition the majority of vampires have lived under the Masquerade, an enforced campaign to hide the existence of the Kindred from humanity.
