Valkyrie Profile 2: Silmeria: Japanese Rpg
built 276 days ago
Essentially an RPG, Valkyrie Profile 2, like the original, plays very differently to the Final Fantasies and Dragon Quests of the RPG fold. Sticking with the 2D side-scrolling dynamic for dungeon and city exploration, Valkyrie Profile 2 finds itself in the odd position of creating a fresh experience by using a gameplay style that has largely been left in the past. During these sections, Alicia can take advantage of her Proton ability to trap the wandering souls in crystals of ice. Trapped temporarily, Alicia can push these to progress in a platforming manner, or teleport to their position to solve some of the game's dilemmas.
[T]hough, Valkyrie Profile was strange and different in some pleasant ways as well. Rather than being based on Tolkein-esque fantasy worlds, like most RPGs, Valkyrie Profile drew its mythological roots from Norse legends. While fans of Marvel Comics’ The Mighty Thor might have found familiar ground, it was certainly a fresh take on fantasy RPG worlds for most gamers.

Some sites are ... showing pages of art with Silmeria and Frei (Freya in the Japanese version), but they're just being idiots and showing scans from the Valkyrie Profile Material Collection. :/ If anyone sees these, they're related to the first game, not any new title, and came out in the Material Collection years ago.

Valkyrie Profile was not exactly what fans had been expecting. On one hand, Valkyrie Profile seems a bit of a throwback since there was no 3D world to explore; the game was a side-scrolling action RPG that felt like it might have been more at home on Sega Genesis or Super Nintendo, since the 3D gaming revolution was, by then, fully underway.
