Valar: Valinor
built 272 days ago
Valinor (meaning Land of the Valar) is a fictional location from J. R. R. Tolkien's legendarium, the realm of the Valar in Aman. It was ... known as the Undying Lands, as only immortal souls were allowed to reside there, with some exceptions when it came to the bearers of the One Ring, and, it is said, Gimli also accompanied his friend Legolas to these lands.

After this, the Valar left Middle-earth and seldom returned. They founded a new land far away to the west, in Aman, that they called Valinor; a land lit by the fabled light of the Two Trees.
In the mythological cycle described by J.R.R.Tolkien, Elbereth was the Queen of the Valar ('the Undying'), the race of immortal demi-gods directed by Eru, ('The One'), (... called Ilúvatar = "All-Father") in the creation of the manifest universe. Her consort was Manwë ('Blessed One'), the Lord of the Winds and King of the Valar. They inhabited Valinor, "the undying lands" and were the guardians of the Erusen (the children of Eru), the inhabitants of the Earth ('Arda'). While the Universe was created through the agency of the Valar, the Erusen who lived in it were created directly by Eru without their influence or assistance.
The names usually given to the Valar were those by which they were known to the Eldar in Valinor. In Middle-earth, they were known by other names of Sindarin origin; for example 'Elbereth' for Varda, or 'Araw' for Oromë. Their names among Men are said to be legion.
