The Rosewood project is an elective class in which Vail students travel to Rosewood Park Elementary School to tutor K- 4th graders and special needs. To participate in the class students must meet the minimum requirements. Students are selected for Rosewood because they show an interest in working with children, have good attendance (90%) and are motivated! The students must sign up for the class. The students can earn up to 10 credits for the class. They earn 5 credits for writing and illustrating a book for children and writing daily journals on specific topics that are assigned by their Vail teacher.
On March 26th, 1976, Vail’s success was tainted by a gondola accident at Lionshead. A carrying cable snagged on a support tower and caused two cabins to snag and derail off of the high towers, killing four and injuring eight. The gondola closed the remainder of the season until the Von Roll Lift Company installed a state-of-the-art monitoring system, preventing any further accidents.
