USPS vehicle advertising E85 alcohol fuel, Saint Paul, Minnesota Formerly, USPS International services were categorized as Airmail (Letter Post), Global Priority, Global Express, and Global Express Guaranteed Mail. In May 2007, USPS restructured international service names to correspond with domestic shipping options. Letter post is now 1st Class International, Airmail Parcel post is now Priority Mail International. Global Express is now Express Mail International. GEG remains the same. One of the major changes in the new naming and services definitions is that USPS-supplied mailing boxes for Priority and Express mail are now allowed for international use.
The award encompasses an additional 110 Delivery Bar Code Sorter (DBCS 6) machines to expand USPS' existing fleet of letter sorting equipment. Siemens will provide installation and associated integrated logistics support services for the new machines in addition to carts used to transport trays of sorted mail. Production and installation of the DBCS 6 order is expected to be completed by April 31, 2008. This is the second order for the DBCS 6. In November 2006, Siemens was awarded a $109.4 million contract for 211 of those machines.

Since 1775, the USPS and its predecessor, the Post Office Department, has connected friends, families, neighbors and businesses by mail. It is an independent federal agency that visits 142 million homes and businesses every day, six days a week and is the only service provider delivering to every address in the nation. The USPS receives no taxpayer dollars for routine operations, but derives its operating revenues solely from the sale of postage, products and services. With annual revenues of more than $70 billion, it is the world's leading provider of mailing and delivery services, offering some of the most affordable postage rates in the world. The USPS delivers more than 46 percent of the world's mail volume -- some 206 billion letters, advertisements, periodicals and packages a year -- and serves 7.5 million customers each day at its 37,000 retail locations nationwide. Its Web site, usps.com, attracts more than 21 million visitors each month.

The recent shift at the U.S. Postal Service (USPS) to shape-based postage has many businesses scrambling to manage higher mailing fees, and media companies have been among the hardest hit. Because they don't ship media in cases, firms like NetFlix have overcome the challenge with mailers that classify as letters. With cases... media mailings fall into the most expensive postage category, parcels, or a new standard mail category called not flat-machinable (NFM). This new category addresses flat pieces, with parcel-like characteristics-like rigidity.

The U.S. Postal Service (USPS) reported a Fiscal Year 2007 first quarter loss of $2.7 billion due to the accelerated funding of retiree health benefits mandated by the Postal Accountability and Enhancement Act signed into law on Dec. 20, 2006. The law requires the Postal Service to substantially fund its share of these benefits by 2017. Operationally, the Postal Service would have otherwise achieved a net income of $1.2 billion, in line with its first quarter financial plan. "BvDP"
