- Sql Server 2000 -- Queries
SQL Server ... allows stored procedures to be defined. Stored procedures are parameterized T-SQL queries, that are stored in the server itself (and not issued by the client application as is the case with general queries). Stored procedures can accept values sent by the client as input parameters, and send back results as output parameters. They can also call other stored procedures, and can be selectively provided access to. Unlike other queries, stored procedures have an associated name, which is used at runtime to resolve into the actual queries. Also because the code need not be sent from the client every time (as it can be accessed by name), it reduces network traffic and somewhat improves performance.[8] Execution plans for stored procedures are also cached as necessary. - Netmeeting -- Users
In the 1990s, NetMeeting was used a popular collaboration tool between two employees on a common local area network. NetMeeting used popular (at the time) peer-to-peer connections. The Internet expanded, firewalls went up, and employees tried to use NetMeeting for inter-company meetings. Unfortunately, peer-to-peer connections were blocked by firewalls and routers, and many employees were frustrated that the LAN utility did not work over the Internet and most wide area networks (WANs). In addition, the ranges of ports and the geometric growth in connections needed for multi-user sessions were big setbacks for IT managers. - Gnutella -- Users
Gnutella is Napster -style program that allows people to share their MP3s with other Gnutella users. Program is currently in quite early beta phase, but it's still pretty rocking - nicest feature is absolutely the non-server -oriented thinking in the structure. - Whois -- Users
The whois utility is the Internet username directory service that you can use from a Unix computer. At Indiana University, you can use it on UITS Unix systems to look up users at other organizations. (To look up people at IU, use the IU Address Book; you can no longer use whois to find IU users.) For an online help message about whois, at the Unix prompt, enter: - Auditing -- Users
Registry - Auditing in the Registry can be particularly onerous to the system, so be sure that you are not auditing keys you don't need to. To configure auditing on a specific key, in the Registry Editor, highlight the key and then choose Security|Permissions|Advanced|Auditing. As before, you can select which users you would like to be audited along with what actions you would like recorded. - Locator -- Users
The Senior Housing Locator is similar to the real estate industry's Multiple Listing Service, and functions much like a traditional search engine. Users search by categories such as geographic location, facility name or license type, and can even screen their results by care needs, payment options and lifestyle amenities. Listings may include photo galleries and virtual tours as well. - Jeeves -- Users
Jeeves Enterprise On Demand is a flexible operations service that is tailored for Jeeves Enterprise, and in which the system servers are operated and maintained by IBM. The customer can buy the precise capacity and functionality that their situation requires, and at a fixed monthly cost per user. This allows the customer company to free up capital that would otherwise be tied up if they were to handle these tasks in-house. - Whitepages -- Users
"It brings more focus to what we have on our site," said Susie Kang, senior VP of the consumer services group at WhitePages.com. "The response that we had from our users was that the site was cluttered." - Server -- Users
