Ursula Andress: Career
built 634 days ago
In 1979, while shooting Clash of the Titans, Ursula fell in love with the picture's main hero, played by actor Harry Hamlin (she portrayed the goddess Aphrodite). He's27, she's43. Nevertheless, he's the man that gave her a child, their son Dimitri Alessandro, in May 1980. She would soon throw Hamlin out the front door, in pursuit of more short-lived liaisons. The rest of her career consists of some European productions (often for television), not well-known to her North American fans.

Paradoxically, as public interest in her film work was waning, Ursula was becoming a more professional actress. She was particularly good playing a hedonistic bitch in "The Blue Max". Unassisted by the screenplay, Ursula made her character recognisably human while still making clear she was a pampered adultress devoid of a moral code. Stanley Baker, her co-star in "Perfect Friday" and a man not normally well disposed towards glamour girls, admitted that he was pleasantly surprised by Ursula's disciplined approach to her work. However in that film Ursula had scenes in bed with Baker which further robbed her of any mystery and which speeded the decline of her career.

After the her son's birth, Andress scaled back her career, which now focused mostly on European TV and films, as she was raising Dimitri in Rome. She last worked on film in 1997. Her relationship with Hamlin having ended in 1982, she has lived with Lorenzo Rispoli since 1983.
