built 133 days ago
Now Univision (Research) is strutting its stuff for suitors. In early February executives said they would consider selling the $2-billion-a-year Los Angeles--based company. Potential buyers include private-equity investors and major media companies such as CBS, News Corp., Disney, Time Warner (parent of FORTUNE's publisher), and Grupo Televisa, the Mexican television company that owns 11% of Univision and provides it with most of its telenovelas.

In late 2004, a feud began between Univision's chairman, 78-year old entertainment guru Jerry Perenchio, and the 36-year old head of Televisa, Emilio Azcárraga Jean. The dispute was about Univision's continual editing of Televisa's programming, and failure to pay for transmission of Televisa produced sports and specials. The feud intensified to the point where Televisa's most famous stars have been banned from appearing on any Univision-produced shows and specials. In addition, Televisa has filed a lawsuit against Univision for breach of contract. In recent years, Univision ... lost several key on air personalities to Telemundo, including long time weekend news anchor Maria Antonieta Collins, tabloid news anchor Maria Celeste Arraras, and sports announcer Andres Cantor.
Anchored by Andres Angulo and Martha Saldana, NOTICIAS UNIVISION COSTA CENTRAL relies on a team of several local and regional field reporters, including Maribel Roldan and Norma Flores, well-known broadcast journalists in the greater Santa Barbara market. Weather will be presented by Abir Sandoval, with Armando Romero, "El Senor de los Deportes" (The Sports Guy), reporting the latest news about local sports, Mexican and other Latin American soccer, baseball and other athletic news.
