For the fifth year in a row, the University of Wisconsin-Madison team has captured the 'America's Cup of Civil Engineering' at the American Society of Civil Engineers' (ASCE) 20th Annual National Concrete Canoe Competition. Their technical skills, ingenuity and dedication propelled them to victory in their 179-pound, natural gray canoe, the Descendent. As the winner of the 2007 National Concrete Canoe Competition, which took place in Seattle, the team will ... be invited to participate in the 30th Annual Dutch Concrete Canoe Challenge in the Netherlands in September.

Local authors (and husband and wife) Lee Smith and Hal Crowther will read from their own works and present the prizes and awards to the winners of the annual N.C. State University fiction contest tonight in Raleigh. Smith is the author of several novels, including ,"The Last Girls," in addition to being a creative writing professor at NCSU. Crowther is a columnist for the Oxford American and recently released his book "Gather at the River: Notes from a Post-Millennial South."

Tehle earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Economics with highest honors from the University of Wisconsin and a Master of Business Administration from the University of Michigan. He is currently active in Big Brothers and Big Sisters of Greater Dallas and is an active member of the finance committee of the American Apparel and Footwear Association.
