The University's Division of Continuing Studies and Corporate Education offers evening programs through the various colleges. Through the College of Arts and Sciences, baccalaureate programs in applied mathematics, criminal justice, information technology, and liberal arts are offered. Through the College of Engineering, associate and baccalaureate degrees are offered in civil engineering technology, electronic engineering technology, and mechanical engineering technology. Through the College of Management, an associate degree program in accounting and a baccalaureate degree in business administration are available. Certificate programs are offered in accounting, computer-assisted manufacturing, computer engineering technology, data/telecommunications, electrooptics, environmental technology, graphic design and digital imagery, hazardous waste management, Internet technology, land surveying, manufacturing technology, multimedia applications, nutrition, paralegal studies, plastics engineering technology, quality assurance, Spanish, technical writing, UNIX, wastewater treatment, water treatment, and Web site design and development.

The student-operated newspaper, The Daily Collegian, is published Monday through Friday during the University of Massachusetts' calendar semester. The Collegian is independently funded, operating on advertising revenue. Founded in 1890, the paper began as Aggie Life, became the College Signal in 1901, the Weekly Collegian in 1914 and the Tri-Weekly Collegian in 1956. Published daily since 1967, the Collegian has been broadsheet since January 1994.

Most of the Shared Facilities are available without charge to materials researchers at the University and in the surrounding four colleges (Amherst, Hampshire, Mount Holyoke, and Smith) of the Five-College Consortium. The NMR Laboratory, the Molecular Weight Facility and the Keck Electron Microscopy Laboratory charge a nominal fee of $15/hour. The practice of open access to outside academic users continues and fostered through updated web pages on the MRSEC website, describing the instruments, services available, and contact personnel.

In the opulence of Ochre Court last night, some 70 Salve Regina University students gave up an evening of their college meal plans by participating in the Oxfam Hunger Feast to call attention to global hunger. Most participants (60 percent) gathered on the floor for a meal of rice and water to represent the proportion of the world’s people who are low income and impoverished.

The university would increase tuition $2,500 each of the next two years, meaning an MBA from the Belk College of Business at UNC Charlotte will cost full-time students about $8,200 a year -- up from about $3,200 now. Chancellor James Woodward notes that tuition would remain the lowest among area programs.
