Universal Disk Format: Mac Udf
built 656 days ago
Software Architects, a leading supplier of disk drive software and technology using the Universal Disk Format (UDF), announced the release of Disk Drive TuneUp™ Pro v4.0 for MS Windows™. The software is the world's first PC product that supports Plasmon UDO™ and Sony PDD™ drives. These devices are the first two commercial implementations of blue laser based, high density optical recording technology.

DVD-RAM discs can be initialized using the Universal Disk Format (UDF), Mac OS Standard, Mac OS Extended, or DOS formats. The UDF format allows you to share information with any computer platform that works with UDF 1.5.

DVD-ROM uses the UDF (Universal Disk Format), but can ... be accessed using ISO-9660, to provide compatibility with previous systems. This hybrid file system is called "UDF Bridge." As both file systems are able to access any file on the disc, all content on the disc can be accessed by using either file system.

In addition, WinRAR 3.70 now supports the "Universal Disk Format" (UDF; ISO 13346). This file format is frequently used in ISO images of DVD disks. UDF enables working with larger files, larger disks and with more information about individual files and folders.

A quick format utility can simply erase the UDF volume by erasing the recognition sequence of the volume. The volume recognition procedure looks for the Volume Recognition Sequence (VRS) from a base address (UDF's term is Volume Recognition Space). For most media, the base address is the start of the media. For multi-session optical media (CD-R, DVD-R, DVD+R, BD-R etc), the base point is the start of the last data session. VRS consists of the following three contiguous sectors which are stored after the first 32KB of the base address:
