Presently, the United States Army has the Regular army and the Army Reserve as its two components. The United States National Guard is an armed force under the State governments. The National Guard members hold dual positions- as Guardsman and as Army Reservists in the Americas Army.

In 1914 the United States Army comprised 98,000 men, of whom some 45,000 were stationed overseas. The regular army was backed up by the 27,000 troops in the National Guard. In December 1914 General Leonard Wood helped to form the National Security League and began arguing for conscription as a means of increasing the size of the US Army. President Woodrow Wilson responded by increasing the standing army to 140,000 men.

Before his tenure at Northrop, upon completion of three years of service as an officer in the United States Army, Serio worked for the NSi Environmental Research Center. During his employment as director of research and technology, NSi became the largest independent research testing center for the Environmental Protection Agency's Office of Research and Development. Every member of the United States Army is known as a “Soldier”. The Americas Army is structured along the lines of- Field Army, which is of four-star level (GEN). Corps is at three-star level (LTG) with two or more divisions. The Military Divisions with the Commanders are at two-star level (MG). Brigade or Group-with three or more brigades are headed by a Colonel, Battalion or Squadron. A Lieutenant with help of a Sergeant First Class/E-7(SFC) leads platoons.

NEW YORK, May 5 /PRNewswire/ -- Col. David H. Hackworth, the United States Army's legendary, highly decorated guerrilla fighter and lifelong champion of the doughboy and dogface, groundpounder and grunt, died Wednesday in Mexico. He was 74 years old. The cause of death was a form of cancer now appearing with increasing frequency among Vietnam veterans exposed to the defoliants called Agents Orange and Blue.
