Beginning in the summer of 2003 United Parcel Service will use a fuel cell A-Class for letter delivery. In 2004 a fuel cell Sprinter is to be used for packet delivery in the Detroit area and will be refueled with hydrogen. The deployment of the zero-emission vehicles, in two different sizes, be the first use of fuel cell technology in a commercial delivery fleet in North America.

The United Parcel Service hiring windowwas to close Nov.15, 2007, but may reopen in January 2008, depending on the airline’s hiring needs, reported AIR Inc., the Atlanta-based pilot career information firm. Minimum qualifications include 1,500 hours fixed-wing time; 1,000 hours pilot in command of a fixed-wing turbine aircraft; and an ATP certificate or commercial/instrument/multiengine. Experience flying large jets internationally is preferred.

"The partnership with United Parcel Service, developed through the previous Phalanx logistics contract, has greatly improved inventory accuracy," said Wyatt. "Currently, Phalanx inventory accuracy stands at 99.9 percent resulting in a substantial increase in supply availability and a reduced wait time for the sailors responsible for maintaining the Phalanx systems. Future cost savings and improved responsiveness can be anticipated by reducing parts demands through engineering redesign of selected high-demand, high-cost parts."
SINCE last Monday, even the Havasupai Indians living at the base of the Grand Canyon are able to receive next-day delivery of letters via the United Parcel Service. Under a complicated plan devised by the company in case the need ever arises, a U.P.S. driver with an urgent letter will drive 50 miles on a dirt road from Valentine, Ariz., to the rim of the canyon.
United Parcel Service announced that the Board of Directors has increased the regular quarterly dividend to $0.45 per share from $0.42 on all outstanding Class A and Class B shares. The dividend is payable March 4, 2008, to shareholders of record on February 11, 2008.
