June 30, 2005 -- Dow Jones has reported that "Demand from small and medium-sized companies is helping shipping giant United Parcel Service Inc. (UPS) post double-digit sales growth in Mexico, company officials said Monday. During the first quarter, UPS' export business sales from Mexico, the company's biggest Latin American market, grew by 30% versus the like-2004 quarter, building on a 60% annual expansion last year."

UPS follows Jarrett to Michael Waltrip's Racing Toyota: NASCAR driver Dale Jarrett will bring United Parcel Service Inc. along for the ride when he moves to Michael Waltrip Racing in 2007. Atlanta-based UPS has reported a two-year deal with Michael Waltrip Racing to sponsor Jarrett in a Toyota Camry for the 2007 and 2008 seasons of the NASCAR Nextel Cup Series. Earlier this year, Jarrett agreed to move to the Waltrip organization and race a Toyota Camry starting with the 2007 Daytona 500. The decision to join Michael Waltrip Racing ... places UPS among the first sponsors to adorn a Toyota Camry in 2007, which is the manufacturer's inaugural season in the NASCAR Nextel Cup Series. UPS has supported Jarrett since 2001, when it first became a NASCAR team sponsor and began its popular "Race the Truck" advertising campaign. That campaign has made Jarrett's name synonymous with UPS and its "big brown truck" and UPS said maintaining that brand connection was a factor in its decision.

United Parcel Service of America, Inc., a U.S. parcel delivery service provider, has submitted claims against Canada under the UNCITRAL rules. UPS claims that Canada Post, which UPS alleges is a letter mail monopoly, engages in anti-competitive practices: in providing its non-monopoly courier and parcel services (Xpresspost and Priority Courier), it, allegedly, unfairly uses its postal monopoly infrastructure to reduce the costs of delivering its non-monopoly services. UPS alleges that Canada has breached its obligations under the NAFTA (1) to supervise a "government monopoly" and "state entity" (Arts. 1502(3)(a) and 1503(2)); (2) to accord treatment no less favorable than it accords, in like circumstances, to its own investors (Article 1102); and (3) to accord treatment in accordance with international law (Article 1105). UPS seeks US$160 million in damages.

United Parcel Service Inc., an Atlanta package-delivery company, bought Overnite Corp., a Richmond-based freight firm, for $1.25 billion. The deal culminates UPS’s search for a trucking company to help it compete against FedEx Corp. for heavier transportation loads. Overnite will operate as a subsidiary of UPS.
