Underwurlde: Knight Lore
built 279 days ago
Underwurlde, the second game in the Sabreman series had three seperate exits from the castle. Each exit had a different congratulations screen naming another adventure in the Sabreman saga. Exit one named Knight Lore which was released at the same time as Underwurlde. Exit two named Pentagram which was released in June 1986. The third exit named Mire Mare which was never published. The reasons for this have only just been made public, see the interview at the Ultimate Appreciation website, linked below.

Conceived in 1983, they were legendary in the 8-bit days for a series of classic titles that included Jetpac, Sabre Wulf, Underwurlde, KnightLore, Nightshade, and Gunfright. Today they are better known as Rare (website) - still a legendary name due to the success of Goldeneye on the N64, along with other titles such as Banjo Kazooie and Perfect Dark.

The knight is moved around the castle with joystick or keyboard in a similar way to the hero in Ultimate's Underwurlde. A series of easy to use command windows can be accessed to pick up or examine objects and order other characters around. The menus are easy to use and beat the old method of typing commands, word for word, onto the keyboard.
