Udinese were the only Italian side not to lose to Inter last season, drawing 0-0 at home and 1-1 in Milan during a campaign which saw Inter win 30 of their 38 matches. Pasquale Marino’s men are one of only four teams to have avoided defeat against Inter this term and are enjoying a fine season.
Udineses' best showing was in 2004-2005 when it came in fourth in the Serie A. That was the year that Juventus won controversially against Udinese in a match that has now been investigated as fixed. The Udinese match gave Juventus the championship.

Udinese took the lead on 56 minutes when Di Michele held off Pancaro before breaking Simic’s block tackle and firing low into the corner below Dida’s body. In very hot conditions, Ancelotti then brought on Clarence Seedorf, Kaka and Rino Gattuso for Pirlo, Crespo and Dhorasoo. The changes gave the side an extra lift as the Rossoneri began to dominate play. Another Serginho run and cross was blocked at the near post and Seedorf whistled in a low drive just past the post. However, with just five minutes to go, Serginho equalised with a curling cross-shot from the left which looped over goalkeeper Samir Handanovic and into the back of the net. Inzaghi could have grabbed all three points soon after but just failed to meet Kaka’s low ball across the face of the goal.

What makes Udinese an exciting club to watch out for is a group of extremely young talent that has been assembled from all parts of the world that give Udinese an extremely cosmopolitan look. They are led by Ghanian midfielder Sulley Muntari and striker Asamoah Gyan. Names that should be familiar to US soccer fans who saw their team inflicted punishment at the hands of the Ghanians in the World Cup. Muntari, Nigerian Chris Abodo along with Gaetano D'Agostino combine together to form a potent midfield. Veteran striker Vincenzo Iaquinta and goalkeeper Morgan De Sanctis are the other standouts in this squad. Udinese young talents Tomas Sivok, Jose Montiel, and Jose Pina are touted as outstanding future prospects.

Udinese will be keen to avoid a third consecutive defeat as they entertain Atalanta at the Friulian stadium on Sunday. The Bianconeri look to be out of the race for fourth spot after losing 2-0 at Parma. The Zebrette will be well aware they could even lose their hold on sixth spot if they slip up again this weekend. Coach Pasquale Marino was upbeat despite the defeat on Wednesday. "I liked the team today. The attitude was different from that shown last Sunday," he declared.
Earlier in the day, Atalanta couldn’t do better than a 0-0 goalless draw against visitors Udinese, who were playing without their in-form striker Antonio Di Natale. Riccardo Zampagna had the perfect opportunity to put the home team in the lead, but blasted his 2nd half penalty shot onto the crossbar.
