   The Stamps.com integration will enable PayPal users to buy and print U.S. Postal Service postage online from their PayPal account. PayPal sellers will be able to calculate the exact amount of postage required and print a shipping label pre-populated with the recipient's information using the Web-based application. In addition, the electronic Delivery Confirmation feature will allow sellers to conveniently verify delivery of their shipments online. This agreement represents the first deployment of Stamps.com's shipping application programming interface into a third party's product.

   WASHINGTON, Sept. 28 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Pitney Bowes Government Solutions, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Pitney Bowes Inc. (NYSE: PBI), announced today that it has been awarded a contract to manage the U.S. Postal Service's Surface Transfer Center in Atlanta. The contract is for four years, with two, two-year options. The potential revenue from this contract over the eight-year term is expected to be more than $53 million.

   Earlier this month, U.S. troops entered the streets of Baghdad to restore order during a protest that turned ugly. Someone threw a homemade grenade at the Americans, wounding 13 servicemen. According to the Oct. 8 Daily Threat Assessment -- the Coalition's internal casualty report, which was shown to Newsweek -- eight soldiers were wounded seriously enough to be evacuated to military hospitals. Yet at a press conference the next day, there was no mention of the attack. Pushed by reporters, U.S. officials would only say the incident was under investigation. It was as if the ambush, and the casualties, had never happened.

   For much of the indie rock underground, The Postal Service is a Big Deal. And for good reason: the last time Jimmy Tamborello - he of Dntel fame - and Death Cab for Cutie mouthpiece Benjamin Gibbard got together, they produced the exquisitely nostalgic glitch-pop track "(This is the Dream of) Evan and Chan." This collaboration was easily the bet track on Dntel's proclaimed Life is Full of Possibilities. On the surface, it seemed like the perfect one-off project: Gibbard's melody floated effortlessly over Tamborello's noisy electronica. So when news floated down from the Sub Pop camp that the duo was releasing a full-length, hype swelled and fans waited.

   The role of the Postal Service as a government-approved monopoly continues to be a topic of debate. However, in 2003 the Presidential Commission on Postal Services and in 2006 the Congress both rejected the idea of privatizing the United States Postal Service. Employment and schedules in the Postal Service fluctuate with the demand for its services. When mail volume is high, full-time employees work overtime, part-time workers get additional hours, and casual workers may be hired. When mail volume is low, overtime is curtailed, part-timers work fewer hours, and casual workers are discharged.

   Councilwoman Kathy Tavenner, D-8, who has been supporting the residents in their concerns, said yesterday that the Postal Service should have waited until a meeting. The CBUs' location ... creates a safety hazard, she said.
