Tyrian: Tyrians
built 268 days ago
Is there a case in Tyrian history when a religious official would have been in a position to pay tribute to a conquering army? Ithobal, the biblical Ethbaal, father of Jezebel, was a priest of Astarte before he killed Phales and took the throne [9]. "Baal" could easily be a shortened form of "Eth-Baal". However it is unlikely that the father-in-law of Ahab would still be around at the time of Jehu and, in any case, once he took the throne there is no reason why he would not have been recorded as "king of the Tyrians". If we are looking for a religious official with near-royal power but who was not a king himself, we have only one candidate: Sicharbas the priest, the husband of Elissa.

The main chemical constituent of the Tyrian dye was discovered by Paul Friedländer in 1909 to be 6,6′-dibromoindigo, a substance that had previously been synthesized in 1903. However, it has never been synthesized commercially.[5][6]

Tyrian is a shoot 'em up with a complex plot. You play the role of Trent Hawkings, this galaxy's ace solo fighter-pilot, whose luck forces him to save the galaxy, one time after another. Again and again, Trent must fight off MicroSol, a company with the evil intent of taking over the galaxy. Through your struggles, you will find yourself again and again betrayed by friends and allies, your parents will be killed and you will have to return to points you've already been to (with variations on the levels) in order to remove further threats to the galaxy and to yourself, all for the ultimate goal of overthrowing MicroSol.

The origins of Tyrian began as an experiment in 1991, with a young Jason Emery showing his friend Alexander Brandon the preliminary workings of a scrolling background. The two continued developing, and eventually decided the work could be shown to a game company. Brandon wrote a proposal document and sent it to the two leading shareware game publishers of the time, Epic MegaGames and Apogee. However, the game lacked any sound or music, and the graphics were "definitely not professional". As such, "neither got overly excited", but both showed interest.

Tyrian lodge #246 recently voted to raise its annual dues by $10.00. This will set the annual dues at $70.00 for the year 2007. The dues increase will match the $7.00 increase in per-capita tax that will be paid to Grand Lodge in 2007 and provide an extra $3.00 per member to help off set rising costs in building maintenance.

The original release of Tyrian consists of three episodes, the first being free and the other two available through shareware registration. The second version was later released, featuring an additional fourth episode.
