Tyler Perry Tyler Perry is at it again! His new movie “Daddy’s Little Girl” starts next Wednesday, starring Idris Elba(aka Stringer) and Gabrielle Union. Meagan Good showed up in the same earrings she always wears that was discussed on YBF.
The outspoken Southern matriarch of Tyler Perry's wildly popular stage show finally lands in the one place where talking won't do her any more good in this release of a performance originally captured on camera before a live audience. Madea (Perry) has a reputation for being able to talk herself out of any tight situation, but when the police arrive determined to haul her away to the pokey, she quickly discovers that sometimes it pays to resist temptation and simply keep your mouth shut. ~ Jason Buchanan, All Movie Guide

The Tyler Perry Collection: Why Did I Get Married? Laugh along with Tyler Perry as the award-winning playwright examines the love, joy, faith, and trials of marriage in a hilarious and touching examination of the powerful bond shared between husband and wife. A marriage has been threatened by the advancements of a sexy and alluring young temptress, but just when it seems as if the familial bond may have finally withered so much that it can't withstand a little external pressure, the once close-knit family pulls together once again to re-examine their relationships and explore just what it means to devote your life to the one you love most. ~ Jason Buchanan, All Movie Guide

Tyler Perry Just like Tyler Perry's "Madea" franchise, this movie far exceeded expectations--estimates for its opening box office were down around $7 million. Perry's films are relatively inexpensive to produce, and incredibly easy for Lions Gate to market--they're focused on the under-served urban market, so all it takes is well-placed billboards and TV ads in certain markets.

Jill Scott and Tyler Perry. Click image to expand. Profiles of Tyler Perry tend to overlook his appeal to black women and focus instead on the role material items play in his movies. This isn't entirely unwarranted. Perry himself is fond of boasting about all the things his lucre has bought him. (He recently told the New York Times he wanted to have his own island; I don't think he was kidding.) Several dozen PETA activists would be required to throw paint on all the furs worn in Why Did I Get Married?, his most flagrantly fabulous film yet. The movie forgoes his usual city/country, buppie/ghetto clashes and instead draws a warm bath of soap-opera-worthy bougie melodrama. If the Luther Vandross songbook could be distilled into a two-hour movie, it'd probably look something like this.

Tyler Perry movies suffer from poor and amateurish writing, below average acting and the same story just told in a different way. Doesn't he have any original material? The situations are melodramatic and not real life, the story lacks continuity, focus and the situations are predictable.
