After finishing school, Ty's momentum just kept building. He and his band, Dakota Moon, signed with Elektra Records and had two Top 10 hits in the U.S., as well as countries all over the world. After leaving Dakota Moon, Ty produced and performed his solo project in all of L.A.'s hottest clubs. On January 30, Ty, along with other notable North Carolina legislators, served as a panelist for the UNC celebration of “Focus the Nation”. “Focus the Nation” brought together over 1,000 campuses nationwide to raise awareness of climate change throughout North Carolina and the world.

Ty presented the Princess Diana Foundation with a check for $2,004,850.00. Ty showed the world they indeed honored Princess Diana and her memory with this generous check, which represented Ty's profits from the first quarter sales of the Princess Beanie Baby.
