Just as colour television sets were very expensive when they were first introduced, the new DTV sets will be quite expensive at first. At present, DTV STB could cost between S$500 to S$1,000 whilst an integrated DTV set could cost in the region of S$3,000 to S$6,000. However, prices of these DTV equipment are expected to fall significantly once DTV becomes more wide-spread, and manufacturers are able to produce more sets at lower costs. (An HDTV set costs around S$12,000 currently)

Today's TV sets can be based on newer fixed-pixel technologies like liquid crystal displays (LCDs), and those with CRTs have much less image drift with crystal-based timing, and so can have perfect image placement. Nevertheless, these sets when used for TV must overscan the image so that older programming will be framed as intended to be viewed. Even high-definition television (HDTV) sets overscan, although implementation of this is inconsistent. It is common to see HDTV sets crop out text and station logos on HDTV programming. In response to different picture ratios, some broadcasters crop, magnify, or stretch the original video, further distorting the image a HDTV set may receive.[3]

All TV sets with screens 13" or larger manufactured after January 1, 2000 are required to be equipped with features to block the display of television programming based upon its rating. This technology is known as the "V-Chip". It works in conjunction with the TV ratings system to allow parents to block programming they do not want their children to see. After becoming familiar with the TV ratings, parents can identify the level of programming they want to block. By following the directions included with your TV, parents can set the V-chip to block programs with certain ratings. The settings are password protected and can be changed at any time.

U.S. television stations will cease transmitting analog signals on February 17, 2009, meaning that consumers with older sets with analog-only tuners who rely on over-the-air signals will need to take steps in order to be able to watch TV. TVs connected to satellite or cable providers will not be immediately affected by the DTV Transition. The switch to digital TV not only will free up parts of the broadcast spectrum for emergency services, the new signals ... bring major improvements in video and audio quality.

Bloomberg Television will ... be streamed over ERA Group's Taiwanese broadband service, IDTV, which is a joint venture with Pacific Century Cyberworks Limited (PCCW). In addition to the programming partnership, ERAnews will be using Bloomberg's news and data within its own programmes to keep viewers on top of the latest global financial market developments.

The Company's subsidiary, Shaanxi New Century Electronic Co., produces a new generation satellite set top box that converts digital television broadcast signals into analog formats so that analog TV sets can receive digital programming. This device meets all the required standards of Chinese broadcasting authorities. Because the Chinese government plans to change all TV broadcast signals from analog to digital, there is a significant demand in Mainland China for this product.
