The crown jewel of Turnberry is the E. Lawrence Packard-designed par 72 golf course. At 6,852 yards from the championshiptees, Turnberry has hosted a U.S. Open Qualifier and was ... the site of the Illinois Open. The course, with multiple tees, allows golfers of all abilities to have a rewarding experience. The driving range, with teaching area, was enhanced in 2001 with the addition of three target greens and sand traps.

Thanks to Mackenzie Ross and its Open Championship status, Turnberry is now a legend in this part of the world and the Ailsa Course is one of the first links selected on the itinerary of most traveling golfers. Although the early holes on each nine are a little soft, the six or seven great moments and the sheer beauty of the setting combine to make this one of Scotland’s most satisfying golf experiences.

Beginning life as the property of a railway company almost one hundred years ago, Turnberry, having been used as a wartime airfield, was on the verge of extinction by 1946. Cue the timely intervention of course architect Mackenzie Ross, who transformed the property into what has become one of the world's finest golf courses.
