Turkey has many orphaned and homeless children, on average 40 children are abandoned each day and the number of families that have to give their children to foster care has risen drastically in recent years, from 8,000 to 34,000. Existing childcare organizations do not have the capacity to cope with this increase and as such the quality of care and education of the children is deteriorating. This means that there are ... many children living on the streets in Turkey, in Istanbul there are over 1,500 children living on the streets and the figure nationwide exceeds 6,000.
