Tunisia has a long coastline that extends about 1,150 km (about 710 mi) along the Mediterranean Sea. The coast is indented by many harbors and inlets. Tunisia’s largest cities are located along the eastern coast.

Since history began being recorded, there were Berber tribes living in Tunisia. Most of them built little towns and ports along the coastline so they can trade with different travelers from everywhere in the Mediterranean Sea. Most of the travelers that used to pass by Tunisia were Phoenicians who started to settle on the Tunisian coast during the 10th Century BC. Later, in the 8th Century BC, Carthage was built by some settlers that came from Phoenicia and regions abroad. After many wars against Greece in 6th Century BC, Carthage dominated the Mediterranean Sea.

Low season in Tunisia is from January to February, when hotel rates are down and the weather's cool and rainy. During the sweaty high season, from June to August, expect hotel rates to be up, car rentals to be scarce and the markets and museums to teem with foreign visitors. The upscale hotel is located on the seafront and is less than two miles from the center of Hammamet. The hotel is owned by the Tunisian based, Miramar tourist group.
