The first Tu-95 weapon ["lvan"] was a 3 MT nuclear bomb (Product 6SD). Improved 20 MT nuclear bombs appeared by the early 1960s, but they were very large and created some difficulties when they were mounted under the Tu-95 bomber. One Tu-95MA dropped a bomb with a yield of 20 Mt in Sary-Shagan test range in the spring of 1960. September 1979, series production started in 1981. With the reopening of the BEAR production line, the Soviets began producing a new, upgraded variant of the BEAR turboprop bomber, thereby increasing their long-range bomber force. This entirely new variant of the BEAR bomber - the BEAR H - became the launch platform for the long-range Kh-55 [AS-15] air-launched cruise missile.

Engine: The Tu-142M has four KKBM Kuznetsov NK-12MV turboprops, with eight-blade contra-rotating reversible-pitch Type AV-60N propellers. Each turboprop is rated at 11,033 kW (14,795 shp). Recently it was announced that the Indian Navy intended to overhaul & modernise the Tu-142M's turboprops at the Motorostroitel aircraft factory in Samara, Russia. The factory ... undertakes the major overhaul of around 15 Indian NK-12MV engines, annually. A flight refuelling probe, fitted above the nose, allows for in-flight refuelling. A flush light each side of probe in upper part of nose aids night in-flight refuelling.

The Tu-144LL model had new Kuznetsov NK-321 turbofan engines rated at more than 55,000 pounds of thrust in full afterburner. The aircraft is 215 feet, 6 inches long and 42 feet, 2 inches high with a wingspan of 94 feet, 6 inches. The aircraft is constructed mostly of light aluminum alloy with titanium and stainless steel on the leading edges, elevons, rudder, and the under-surface of the rear fuselage.

Badger-C - Tu-16K-10 -- In 1955 work began on using the Tu-16 as the carrier for the K-10S (AS-2 Kipper) cruise missile for the Soviet Naval Air Force for use in an anti-shipping role. The missile's guidance system was added as an onboard system, with the missile mounted semi-submerged under the fuselage on the centerline in the bomb bay area. The glazed nose was replaced by broad flat radome housing antenna for the YeN targeting radar. A missile top-off fuel tank was housed in the bomb bay, along with a small pressure cabin for the YeN radar operator. The TU-16K-10 prototype was finished in 1958 and series production started in 1959. Deployment into the Soviet Naval Air Force began in October 1961.

Tupolev began development of the Tu-204 to meet an Aeroflot requirement for a replacement for the medium range Tu-154 trijet. This all new twin featured a supercritical wing, while engine designer Soloviev (now Aviadvigatel) specifically developed the PS90 turbofan. Other Tu-204 design features include fly-by-wire and a six screen EFIS flightdeck. First flight was on January 2 1989.
