Tron 2.0 is a game based on the events of the breakthrough CG rendered 1982 film Tron. The game takes place 20 years later after Alan Bradley the creator of the original Tron program disappears. You play as his son Jet, another talented computer programmer who enters the world in search of his father and finds out about the sinster plot to corrupt one reality and transform another. It is a first person action driven game. As Jet Bradley you battle digital opponents using guns, rods, grenades, missiles, and the iconic TRON disc. The game has a innovative look and advanced gameplay.

The only thing noteworthy about Tron 2.0 is its graphics. It's not just that the graphics are good (they are), but that they're very original. It's far too rare that a game has a truly unique design, especially when so many FPSs go for the gritty, realistic look. Taking place inside a computer, Tron uses the setting as an excuse to present vibrant, bold colours. Like Warcraft 3's over-the-top colour scheme, Tron manages to get close to gaudy without stepping over the line. The only drawback is that the lack of textures makes judging distances difficult; sometimes you have to guess whether it's a one meter drop or a 100 meter drop.

Tron 2.0 will have a solid gameplay structure. The game is mostly story-driven and your missions are going to be pretty clear and straightforward. However, that doesn’t mean it will be easy. Using your wits is your only way of staying alive and getting through certain areas safely. One of the most crucial gameplay element is Jet’s ability to use his weapon systems. At first, he will be somewhat inaccurate and sloppy, but after bashing a couple of those malevolent Data Wraiths around, he will be able to use his weapons with great skill and precision.

Tron 2.0 ... features online multiplayer via Xbox Live. You can participate in deathmatch, team deathmatch, and light cycle combat with up to 16 players. There is another team game called data capture where there are three points on a map and the first team to control all three wins. The most interesting mode is called override. It combines light cycle and on foot combat and it is pretty fun to be able to try to shoot players on light cycles as they speed by. It is nice that there are so many multiplayer options in Tron 2.0, but the sad part is that the gameplay just isnt good enough to keep you interested in playing online.

The Tron 2.0 community has remained defiant in keeping the game alive, even with no official support. They have made do with the editing tools provided and produced many excellent maps for all 3 multiplayer modes. Patches have been updated to allow the game to have more than 8 map pack installed on and stay stable. Tools have been made to check servers outside of the game, tools to install/uninstall map packs from the game. Tutorials to allow people to pcik up map creating quickly have been published. Unofficial FAQs,current game news blogs, (more predominently) forums and download sites have all been created.

Tron 2.0 can be best described as a First-Person Shooter with RPGish elements tagged on! Your character essentially starts as a simple 'program', which you gradually upgrade via use of build point medallions and program upgrades. Upgrades come in many different forms, from simple programs that will increase your jumping height ability through to weapon enhancements. Each upgrade has three levels of effectiveness, which are Alpha, Beta and Gold - the latter being the most optimised code for the upgrade, and hence the most effective. You pick up upgrades in archive bins that can contain upgrade programs, emails or permissions. Permissions are required to access some higher security bins and ... to gain access to restricted areas.
