Tron 2.0: Monolith Productions
built 658 days ago
Tron 2.0 Tron 2.0 captures the retro-futurism of the 1982 classic while supercharging the experience with 21st century visuals. Not only are the custom pixel shaders of Monolith's Jupiter engine successful at recreating Tron's trademark digital glow, but the color saturation of the near-monochromatic levels injects a Jolly Rancher tartness into the phrase "eye candy." If you appreciate the Lite Brite look of today's case mods, you'll love the look of this game.
MacPlay will release TRON 2.0 for Mac OS X next month. Developed by Monolith Productions, TRON 2.0 takes place in the present day, two decades after the events of the 1980s film that inspired the game. Gamers are "digitized" into cyberspace to battle corruption both inside and outside of the computer world, while exploring locations including the Internet Hub, Firewall, Corrupted Server and Light Cycle Game Grid. In addition to the single-player experience, TRON 2.0 offers team-based multiplayer levels that allow up to 16 players to compete simultaneously. The game will have a manufacturers suggested retail price of US$49.99.

In addition to the old light cycles, Syd Mead, the production designer for the movie, has designed a new “super” version for TRON 2.0, making the vehicles sleeker, sexier, and less stubby than the originals. Riding light cycles in third-person view is an intrinsic part of the single-player story, but fans of the ’80s arcade game will be hooked by the robust single-player and LAN-based light-cycle racing tournaments. They’re so fun, they could’ve been shipped as a separate product.

After two years of teasing video game enthusiasts, Monolith Productions will ship TRON 2.0 to stores for an August 26, 2003 release. The game will only be available for PC and has not yet been rated by the ESRB. A suggested retail price will be announced closer to the game's release date. [Straight from Monolith Productions.]
