Trojan or Trojan Horse is a general term that refers to programs that appear desirable, but actually contain something potentially harmful. It gets its name from the Trojan Horse that was an instrument of war used by the Greeks to gain access to the city of Troy. It looked like a gift of a giant wooden horse, but actually concealed soldiers inside.

The wily Greek hero Odysseus came up with the idea of and design for the Trojan Horse; Epeus, is credited with the actual building. A giant wooden object made to look like a horse was left at the Trojan city gates. Some of the Greeks pretended to sail away, but actually sailed just out of sight. The other Greeks were standing inside the belly of the wooden beast. When the Trojans saw the horse and the Greek troops sailing away, they thought it was a parting gift for the gods and let it into their city.

On Thursday, Intego issued a press release saying it had found OS X's first Trojan Horse, a piece of malware called MP3Concept or MP3Virus.Gen that appears to be an MP3 file. If double-clicked and launched in the Finder, the Trojan accesses certain system files, the company claimed.
