On May 18, 1996, Trinidad faced former world champion Freddie Pendleton. Pendleton was determined and had the experience, but became victim No. 29 when Trinidad used a left hook to the body to stop the challenger in his tracks. The fight ended in the fifth, when Pendleton failed to rise before the count of 10.
Hasely Crawford won the first and only Olympic gold medal for Trinidad and Tobago in the men's 100 m dash in the 1976 Summer Olympics. Nine different athletes from Trinidad and Tobago have won twelve medals at the Olympics, beginning with a silver medal in weightlifting, won by Rodney Wilkes in 1948 [4], and most recently, a bronze medal by George Bovell III [5] in 2004. Ato Boldon has won the most Olympic and World Championship medals for Trinidad and Tobago in athletics with eight in total - four from the Olympics and four from the World Championships. Boldon is ... the only world champion Trinidad and Tobago has ever had in athletics competition. He won the 1997 200 m World Championship in Athens, Greece.
On January 29, 1994, Trinidad scored a unanimous decision over Hector "Macho" Camacho. Trinidad dominated the fight against the flamboyant "Macho Man." It was fight that vaulted Trinidad to the elite of the boxing world.
