TRANSCENDENCE: Various Artists Transcendence is another compilation that showcases the electronic talent of bands that hail from the Northwest. Some of the bands (SMP, Noxious Emotion, Lateral Tension, and OMNIbOX) are more prevalent in the scene than others, but all represented have parallel musical talent. First off is SMP with Finished. This hard-hitting, pulse-pounding piece is ripe with thumping, hip-hop beats, crunchy electronics, and angst-ridden vocals. Jason, Sean, and Matt have been creating militaristic dancefloor anthems for many years and Finished is no exception to this pattern. More reliant on structure and programming, Noxious Emotion's Inertia (Tweek Mix) sports dense beats, dark vocals, and crisp electronics.

Transcendence is the result of a Transcendent (7) success level on an ability check. It signals the end of a character's story, and is a special occasion for that character's player. With this result, the player should feel free to narrate the outcome of her roll herself, with any help she likes from the other players and Story Guide. If the roll comes during Bringing Down the Pain, that ends immediately. If the scene is taking place during the day, the sun is eclipsed by the moon within the hour; if during the night, the moon is eclipsed by the sun.
Transcendence with Nightwish Clearly Transcendence has a bright future. Whilst their debut album provides an excellent introduction to the band, clearly their live sound and the follow-up featuring Isabel Plant on lead vocals illustrate a profound transformation. Clearly worth a cross-country journey--and a trip to Canada to see them perform live--this band is a must listen!
In Transcendence, you have a group of five, o.k. maybe six or seven, depending on how you look at it, hyperactive, obsessive, and insane guys with severe cases of ADD and an extreme passion for music all running around trying to make sense of everything they are listening to and each wanting to create their own personal artistic statements -- the chances of that translating into any two albums sounding remotely similar is going to be pretty slim, " [New Times Magazine] says lead singer Ed Hale , in a recent interview explaining the wide variety of musical boundaries the band has covered in their three CD releases since 2002's eclectic world-music-meets-modern-rock debut Rise and Shine.

This new preoccupation with transcendence is prompted less by a scientific outlook than by human satiety with the world as it is. Transcendence appears as a flight to a more rewarding realm of experience. Perhaps Charles Fair’s comment about Eric Hoffer’s true believer is not far off the mark. The true believer is "a man determined to drag the supernatural back to life by the sheer power of wishing, or failing that, to vent his desolation on those around him -- on reality itself for being such a cheat" (The New Nonsense [Simon & Schuster, 1974] p. 75).
Illus. JP Targete Transcendence by Mike Mearls provides lots and lots of new choices for characters—both PCs and NPCs. Two new types of choice are replacement levels and class-specific feats. To give you a taste of what the book has in store, here are some excerpts from the "Mage Blade" section of Chapter Two: New Character Options.
