/PRNewswire/ -- Verizon and USA Track & Field (USATF) will once again honor top high school track and field and cross-country athletes and reward them for their academic performance as well as their athletic achievements. The Verizon Youth Progress Award was established in 2002 and is presented to four of the nation's most promising track and field and cross-country athletes who are high school seniors. Two male and two female athletes will be selected in both track and field and cross-country. Verizon is the official telecommunications sponsor of USATF. Applications are now being accepted for high school seniors who will graduate in spring 2004. The Verizon Youth Progress Award will include a $5,000 scholarship toward the recipient's first year of college tuition, as well as a collection of USATF apparel.
