The Toyota Corolla is one of the most popular and best selling cars in history. The Corolla name is ... the oldest in Toyota's range of American products. Having been in the American market since 1966, the Toyota Corolla has built an impressive heritage that continues to this day. When the Corolla first made its run back in the late '60s, it was an extremely simple vehicle powered by a 1.1 liter engine. Within a decade, the Corolla, in its third generation had sold more than five million units. Now, with sales of more than 25 million units in 142 countries, the Corolla is the all-time best-selling passenger car in the world.

In 1970, the second generation Toyota Corolla came with a longer wheelbase and a more powerful engine. It offered better handling and ride quality than the earlier models and was considered the second best selling import car that year. Its success continued to the next generation Corolla, which first rolled off the production line in 1974. Once again Toyota has proven its superb engineering and expertise in the auto industry by coming up with this remarkable vehicle. Yet never content with Corolla’s steadfast success, Toyota continued to innovate and upgrade its most popular model. It was with the fifth generation Corolla that Toyota made substantial changes.

[Y]ou think you want to buy a Toyota Corolla, but you haven't sized up the competition. The Ford Focus, Nissan Sentra, Honda Civic and Mazda3 are all in the same class and price range as the Corolla. Only Toyota offers stability control, daytime running lights, and MPG over 30 both city/highway. When looking further into crash test safety features, only the Toyota scores an excellent on both driver and passenger side. Toyota literally has advantages against all these so called competitors and that is one reason they are slowly taking market share in North America from the other manufacturers. The Civic continues to sell really well, but the Ford Focus lacks so many standard features that the others offer, you wonder what American car makers are thinking.
