Toyota 4Runner

The Toyota 4Runner is a truck, not a car. Rather than using a unit-body like the Toyota Highlander or RAV4 or Jeep Grand Cherokee, the 4Runner is built on a new ladder frame that features full-length boxed section frame rails. Toyota ... steered away from using an independent rear suspension like the one on the Ford Explorer and many cars. An independent rear suspension offers better ride quality and allows for a roomier interior. Toyota said it used a live rear axle because it offers more suspension travel, and because off-road capability was a high priority. The 4Runner suspension uses a four-link rigid type suspension in the rear and double wishbones in front.
The Toyota 4Runner is a compact SUV introduced in 1984 that has since grown into one of America’s favorite midsize SUV’s. The original 4Runner’s were nothing more than Toyota Pickup trucks with fiberglass shells over the bed. The second generation of the 4Runner was radically different. A newly designed body was mounted on a pre-existing frame, retaining nearly nothing in common with the original 4Runner. The third generation 4Runner focused on luxury separating the 4Runner from its competition. Increased cargo space, wheel base, ABS, rack and pinion steering were all added to the Toyota 4Runner.

The 2004 Toyota 4Runner shares almost nothing with the mid-size SUVs Toyota sold just two years ago. The 4Runner was redesigned from the ground up for 2003, but its priorities haven't changed a bit. Everything from the basic design to the standard instrumentation and skid plates says this SUV is capable of hard-core off-road work. While other SUVs are becoming more and more like cars, the 4Runner is the real deal. It's loaded with the latest off-road electronic technology, including Hill Start Assist and Downhill Assist Control. True to its truck roots... the 4Runner is built on a rugged ladder frame with a solid rear axle.

The Toyota 4Runner is big, 188 inches long, 74 inches wide and 68 inches high. And for 2004 2005 the Toyota V6 in the 4Runner delivers more power than last year's engine for exceptionally good acceleration performance. And a V8 is ... available for the 4Runner for the first time. The V8, an option for all models, delivers better acceleration than the V6 when fully loaded, but you won't need it unless you plan to do a lot of towing.
Toyota 4Runner 4.7 V8 engine The Toyota 4Runner was first introduced in 1984, based on the compact Toyota Hi-Lux pickup, with a short bed and a plastic cap over the back. Options included the SR-5 sport package, extra gauges (including incline and altitude), a rear heater, and a folding rear seat. Then, as now, 4Runners were built in Tahara, Japan. Power came from a four-cylinder engine, which was carbureted in 1984 and fuel-injected in 1985, with a five-speed manaul transmission and two-speed transfer case. The engine was named simply the 22R - or, with fuel injection, the 22RE.

2003-2005 Toyota 4Runner SR5 4WD The Toyota 4Runner is an SUV manufactured by Toyota and sold in countries such as the United States, Canada, Mexico, Saudi Arabia, Australia and Chile from 1984 to the present. The original 4Runner was a compact SUV and a little more than a Toyota pickup truck with a fiberglass shell over the bed, but the model has since undergone significant independent development into a mid-size SUV. All 4Runners have been built at Toyota's plant in Tahara, Aichi, Japan or at Hino Motors' Hamura, Japan plant.
