Tornado spotting and recording has been on the increase and the new, easy-to-navigate feature allows users to access information about tornadoes and storms across the United States. By using three different search methods, including recent tornado activity, historical tornado activity and tornado activity by region, users can view an interactive map for their area, click on a tornado icon and receive detailed information about the storm, photos and an archived radar loop of the storm's path.

A satellite tornado is a term for a weaker tornado which forms very near a large, strong tornado contained within the same mesocyclone. The satellite tornado may appear to "orbit" the larger tornado (hence the name), giving the appearance of one, large multi-vortex tornado. However, a satellite tornado is a distinct funnel, and is much smaller than the main funnel.[3]
