Disney’s Toontown Online is the first massively multiplayer 3D online game created for kids and kids of all ages. Although not targeted to hard core gamers, Toontown is built on the principles of traditional Role Playing Games (RPGs) and Massively Multiplayer Games (MMPs). Its game play... has been expanded and modified to appeal to casual gamers and through several years of testing, Toontown has developed a core fan base among the gaming community. A non-violent game alternative, Toontown Online is a fun filled, ever changing online Toon world where players become Toons and join together to save the world from the evil Cogs. Toontown is under siege from an evil band of business robots called the Cogs. An unsuspecting Scrooge McDuck accidentally unleashed the money-hungry robots on the Town and they are attempting to turn the colorful world of Toontown into a black and white metropolis of skyscrapers and businesses.

Disney's Toontown is the chat control system. By default, a player may only send in custom messages to another player who has their friend code. The friend code helps ensure that appropriate messages and potential predators from doing anything more than using a series of pre-determined chat games. (This seems to be a trend with online games aimed for smaller children.) This, by itself, stops many of the problems that occur online, although parents should still watch their kids while playing the game.

Before the Barnstormer was built, Toontown had a mini-barn with chickens and horses. This barn was rather disgusting because it was rarely cleaned and smelled of dirty animals. When the barnstormer was built, the animals were moved out and the track was built into the barn. The barn you fly through during the ride once held real animals!
Mickey's Toontown has had its share of attraction casualties over the years. Some attractions have been completely eliminated, while others (such as Donald's Empty Boat and Chip and Dale's Pale Shadow of a Tree House) were just stripped of their entertainment value by the power of a writ by some lawyer who obviously has no idea what fun is all about and probably could use his heart as a ship's anchor.

The playground in Toontown Central. In early versions of Toontown, an introductory Flash animation showed a back-story of the Cogs creation: Gyro Gearloose invented the Cogs for Scrooge McDuck. In his greed, Scrooge didn't wait for Gyro to come into the room; he thought that since a very tall robot in the corner was made for him, the "DO NOT TOUCH" sign didn't apply. As is expected, he wired the huge robot wrong. The result was the robot walking over to a machine, pushing some buttons, and making Cogs. It is implied that the robot is still making them, as Cogs fly into Toontown in an endless cycle.
Disney’s ToonTown Online The main action in Toontown revolves around the Cogs’ invasion of the city. Those humorless corporate automatons come in a variety of types — Lawbots, Cashbots, Sellbots, and Bossbots — but they all share one thing in common: a desire to make Toontown a drab place. You have laughter on your side... in the form of the gags you use to defeat them. As you complete Toon Tasks, you learn how to use more powerful gags, which are necessary to destroy higher-level Cogs. When you become really experienced at the game, get together with some friends and take over a Cog building.
