Mickey's Toontown is 13 years old as of this week and MousePlanet's own Frank Anzalone was there covering the ceremonies as a photographer. While today's article from David Koenig (link) looks at the decline of Toontown over the last 13 years, it seemed an appropriate counterpoint to republish some of Frank's photos and part of an article he wrote after the events of January 25 and 26, 1993.

TMK Toontown Fair Disneyland's newest land, Mickey's Toontown, sits in the far upper corner of the park behind Tomorrowland and Fantasyland. It features Roger Rabbit's Toon Town Spin (dark ride), Gadget's Go Coaster (kid coaster), and several children's play areas. It ... features Donald's boat, and the homes of Mickey and Minnie Mouse.

[E]veryone knows Mickey's Toontown existed long before Disneyland was built right next door. One happy day in 1952, while Walt Disney was in Toontown visiting his pal Mickey Mouse, his dream for a new park came up in conversation. Mickey knew that whenever Walt got that sparkle in his eye, whatever he was dreaming was bound to come true. So he was dismayed when Walt confided in him that he was having a difficult time finding a site large enough to accommodate all the wonderful things he had in mind.

Mickey's Toontown Mickey's house is in the corner of Toontown with a small detached garage to the left. Visitors enter Mickey's living room and walk through his house while viewing personal mementos and show business memorabilia. Check out the screening room where a continuous film featuring segments from four of Mickey's early cartoons are shown on a bed sheet serving as a screen. Mickey's street address is #1 Mickey's Neighborhood Way.

Toontown Behind Fantasyland is Mickey's Toontown, a fun and whimsical place with brightly colored buildings, lots of interesting details...and a few surprises. This little town has it all - City Hall, Post Office, gas station, police station, and fire house...and of course the homes of its two most important citizens - Mickey's House and Minnie's House.
