Toontown: Characters
built 647 days ago
Mickey's Toontown Madness Toontown is home to such favorites as Roger Rabbit, Mickey Mouse, Minnie Mouse, Goofy, Donald, Chip and Dale and other Disney Characters. Be sure to stop by the character's homes, it's often the best opportunity to catch a photo with your favorite Disney character!
In the movie Who Framed Roger Rabbit, the whole city of Toontown is cartoonish, except for anything originally foreign to the city such as people and objects from outside of Toontown. Not only does the city appear illustrated (drawn and painted) and animated, but the whole environment has an imaginary, almost dreamlike, atmosphere. Not only do cartoon characters live in Toontown, but even the buildings, cars, plants, and such are all animated with their own personalities, speech patterns, stylistic movement, and other anthropomorphic traits not possible in reality.

Mickey's Toontown Morning Madness Wake up and enjoy Mickey's Toontown one hour before Toontown opens to the general public.* This enhanced experience offers you the opportunity to meet and greet some of your favorite Disney Characters. The Mayor of Toontown, Mickey Mouse, leads a comical ceremony in which everyone "becomes" a citizen of Toontown - and that's when the madness begins!
Mickey's Toontown opened in Disneyland on January 24, 1993. The area is themed on the Toontown seen in the film Who Framed Roger Rabbit, and resembles a set from a Max Fleischer cartoon. The buildings are stylized and colorful. There are several attractions involving classic cartoon characters, such as the 'houses' of Mickey and Minnie Mouse, and a small kiddie coaster. There are a few interactive gags. Compared to other Disneyland areas ... there are few large or technically complex rides or shows, and the houses themselves appeal primarily as playhouses for small children.

According to old Disney legend, it was Mickey Mouse who suggested that Walt build his first park next to Toontown, home of the Disney characters. This would allow them to visit with guests on their day's off. For many years, Toontown remained hidden behind the park berm. But then the secret was revealed during a Mickey Mouse interview on the Disney Channel, so it was decided to break down the wall and allow guests to visit the gang at home (or, in the case of Donald, at boat). The same tradition has been followed here at Tokyo Disneyland.
