The Concession Golf Course, designed by Jack Nicklaus in association with Tony Jacklin, opened on January 23, 2006. This 18-hole par 72 course is set on 520 acres of ruggedly pristine land dotted with massive oaks and majestic pines. It totals 7470 yards from the tips of the back tees and runs three miles from tip to tip. A 23-acre practice area is one of the largest of its kind in the world. Meticulous attention to detail is evident throughout from the Northern Ohio sand that was trucked in for the bunkers which are hand- raked daily to the over $1 million dollars spent moving mature trees to strategic spots along the course. It is one of only two clubs in the country that has the Advanced Aer system under all 18 greens guaranteeing tournament- quality play conditions all year.
During the 1972 British Open at Muirfield, Scotland, Tony Jacklin and Lee Trevino attacked the 9th hole from the tee. Jacklin went for the carry over the left-hand fairway bunker, while Trevino played more conservatively down the right side. Both finished in the rough, but within iron distance of the green. Two amazing shots followed, both landing about 20 yards (18 m) short of but running onto the green. Both players then holed their putts for eagles.
Designed by Tony Jacklin, the 6,869-yard golf course at Klassis is configured with four par threes, five par fives and nine par fours, giving an overall par of 73. Water only comes into play on three holes, but one of these, the 188-yard, par three, 9th is considered the signature hole. It’s played from an elevated tee across a lake to a tricky two-tiered green on the other side where two putts for par can never be guaranteed.
Jacklin won eight events on the European Tour between its first season in 1972 and 1982. He ... won tournaments in Europe pre the European Tour era and in the United States, South America, South Africa and Australasia.
