Tony Hawk: Skating
built 234 days ago
Tony Hawk was a troubled kid. He would push himself to do well in everything - in fact, to do better than he possibly could do, and then get angry with himself for failing. His parents had him psychologically evaluated, and discovered that he was "gifted". His older brother Steve gave him a skateboard, and Tony found something that he could focus on, and get good at. He would still push himself relentlessly, which helped propel him to be the world's most recognizable skateboarder today.

Proving Ground, the next installment in the long-running Tony Hawk skate franchise, ought to (fingers crossed) add a couple new things to the Tony Hawk brew. Developed and published by Activision for the Xbox 360, PS3, and DS.

Tony Hawk first jumped on a board when he was nine years old. It was a blue fiberglass banana board given to him by his older brother, Steve. Two years later, Tony decided to quit playing Little League baseball and devote himself to skating. Skateboarding would never be the same.

By twelve, Tony was sponsored by Dogtown skateboards, by fourteen he was pro, and by age sixteen Tony Hawk was the best skateboarder in the world. In the ensuing 17 years, Hawk has entered an estimated 103 pro contests. He won 73 of them, and placed second in 19. By far the best record in skateboarding's history.

This version is the ninth title in the series, Tony Hawk’s Proving Ground. Neversoft has again played with the formula a bit, and some additions come welcome but others are starting to show their age. Since the series has now come up against its first strong, competitor with EA’s skate, its lack of any major design improvements in years is even more visible.
