Tony Bennett: Frank Sinatra
built 647 days ago
Tony Bennett remembers a time in the summer of 1956 when NBC asked him to fill in for the vacationing Perry Como on his television show. Petrified, he decided to ask his idol, Frank Sinatra for advice, who gave him a fatherly tip: "Don't worry about being nervous. People don't mind that. It's when you don't care that they walk away from you." Mr. Bennett always recalls that encounter when he talks about the importance of holding onto one's standards.

An icon of American entertainment for over five decades, Tony Bennett captivates his audience with a commanding presence that communicates from the front row to the back of the house. It is a special magic that only a handful of entertainers share -- Bing Crosby had it, Sinatra had it, Ella had it, and all who earn thetitle of "entertainment legend" must have it -- and Bennett has established his place among that illustrious company.

Marshall and his choreography partner John DeLuca brought their Broadway and Hollywood experience to bear in creating a series of show-stopping numbers featuring Bennett and duet partners with a chorus line of dancers. Elton John coyly pops out from behind a screen of feather fans to romp through "Rags to Riches," and Michael Buble exudes Sinatra-style Rat Pack swagger on "Just In Time" — two numbers recreating Bennett's headlining appearances at the Sahara Hotel in the 1960s.
