Tomb Raider: Legend Returning the Tomb Raider to actual tomb raiding is a concept that will lead to huge sighs of relief from gamers worldwide. That is, if they're still paying attention to the series.

Like all Tomb Raider titles, this year's game offers a linear story, but provides puzzles that are linked in organic ways to each other. In the same Mayan ruin, Lara must use her grappling hook in a new way--stretching it around a high-placed pillar, toppling and smashing it into a courtyard floor to reveal an underground tomb. Inside is a skull key that, in a nearby temple, is used to trigger a sundial puzzle that opens up a vast tomb, which requires another skull key and the use of a motorcycle. Yes, the motorcycle returns from Legend, but not as a semi-annoying arcade-style mini-game; it returns as a vehicle to help solve the Mayan calendar puzzle. In this tickler, the Mayan calendar, which only has 360 days and therefore leaves five days off, offers a superstitious no man's period of time that gives Lara a chance to open the gates of Xibalba, and enter into the Mayan underworld.

The object of Tomb Raider is to guide Lara through a series of tombs and other locations in search of treasures and artifacts. On the way, she must kill dangerous animals and other creatures, while collecting objects and solving puzzles to gain access to an ultimate prize, usually a powerful artifact. Gunplay is restricted to the killing of various animals that appear throughout each stage, although occasionally Lara may be faced with a human opponent. Instead the emphasis lies on solving puzzles and performing trick jumps to complete each level. As such, Tomb Raider in essence harkens back to the classical form of platform style gameplay.[2][3]
Tomb Raider has been licensed to Top Cow Productions, which has published a large number of Tomb Raider stories in comic book form since 1999. The series ended in 2004 with the release of its final and fiftieth comic book.
Tomb Raider: The Movie Akiva Goldsman (Lost in Space, A Time to Kill) is rumored to be co-scripting duties for "Tomb Raider: The Movie" along-side Luc Besson. Luc Besson is ... rumored to be directing the Paramount Picture. Filming is expected to start this summer for a late summer 2000 release.
