Breezy Ben and Dismal Dutchy, by Tom Wilkinson 1915 Tom Wilkinson was one of the early British comic artists. As a pioneer, he was one of the first to experiment with the six-panelled page layout of comics, drawing lush decorations around the panels of his comic 'Lanky Larry and Bloated Bill', which appeared in the Comic Home Journal in 1902. He ... contributed to magazine Chuckles (started 1914), for which he created 'Breezy Ben and Dismal Dutchy'.

Tom Wilkinson is a renowned character actor whose recent appearance as a mentally unstable lawyer in Michael Clayton has earned him numerous plaudits, among them an Oscar nomination. He was born on the 12th of December 1948, in Leeds.
Tom Wilkinson ... seems to have an interesting role in the film, but the real question mark is Hayley Atwell. Woody is clearly trying to launch her as a star with this movie, but who knows if he'll succeed. (What I've seen of her so far isn't terribly impressive.) Cassandra's Dream is premiering at the Venice Film Festival and then moving on to Toronto, where Woody will be on hand to hopefully dole out a few interviews and maybe give some new information about his next film, Midnight in Barcelona.

NEW YORK (AP) -- Tom Wilkinson, best known in America as Gerald in the film "The Full Monty," doesn't have a Web site. But it is getting increasingly difficult for him to avoid the spotlight.
Tom Wilkinson A popular British character actor, Tom Wilkinson specializes in playing men suffering from some sort of emotional repression and/or pretensions of societal grandeur. Active in film and television since the mid-'70s, Wilkinson became familiar to an international audience in 1997 with his role as of one of six unemployed workers who strip for cash in Peter Cattaneo's enormously successful comedy The Full Monty. That same year, he was featured in Gillian Armstrong's Oscar and Lucinda, and as the rabidly unpleasant father of Lord Alfred Douglas, Oscar Wilde's young lover in Wilde. Wilkinson was ... shown to memorable effect as a theater financier with acting aspirations in Shakespeare in Love (1998); also in 1998, he acted in one of his few leading roles in The Governess, portraying a 19th century photographer with an eye for the film's title character (Minnie Driver). Though he would appear in such popular mainstream films as Rush Hour (1998) and The Patriot (2000) over the next few years, it was his role in director Todd Field's emotionally intense In the Bedroom that earned Wilkinson (as well as co-star Marisa Tomei) an Oscar nod. After that success, his career began to really take off, and in just the next few years, he would appear in over a dozen films in roles of varying size.

For his upcoming performance as Benjamin Franklin in the HBO miniseries John Adams, based on David McCullough’s best-selling biography, British actor Tom Wilkinson had to look like a hundred bucks. “Everybody knows what Benjamin Franklin looks like because he’s on the hundred-dollar bill,” says Wilkinson, an agreeably grumpy chain-smoker who only slowly warms to the conversation at the Four Seasons Hotel in Beverly Hills. “To play him, you have to have a bald head and long hair.”
