Tom Ricketts launched Chicago-based investment bank Incapital in 2001 to bring original-issue corporate bonds—InterNotes—to retail investors. InterNotes are issued at par and in denominations of $1,000, are rated A or higher, and are offered weekly. To date, Incapital has signed up 13 issuers, and is seeing record sales of its retail bonds—Inflation Protected InterNotes(IPIs)—and structured bonds called e-Linx. To help independent advisors brush up on the ins and outs of bonds, Incapital recently launched www.bondschool.com.
Tom Ricketts was profiled in BusinessWeek for pioneering a new product for individual investors - investment-grade corporate bonds.
