Kenny plays his local club hurling and football with Grenagh and has had some success with the club. He was recognised as great dual player at under-age level and subsequently won a Mid-Cork junior football championship medal with the club in 2003. Tom attended pharmacy school at Campbell University. When asked about his favorite thing about being a pharmacist he replied, "Working inside all day...Ha! Ha! Genuinely helping people. Usually patients have spent a long time waiting at a doctor's office and not feeling well - they are usually frustrated and often impatient. By the time they get to the drug store a simple smile is often a cure in itself."

Recently, Kenny's student engineers have collaborated frequently with biologists, perhaps, he speculates, because their work isn't as dissimilar as one might think. After all, he points out, biologists are trying to solve problems involving stickiness, folding, and structure.
