An incident occurs in which Master Blifil lets go the small bird of Sophia's, given to her by Tom as a young boy. Tom tries to retrieve it but, in doing so, falls into a canal. This incident turns Sophia against Blifil but puts Tom in her favour. Tom speaks to Sophia about George, and she persuades her father to drop any charges and to employ him.

Shortly after some promotional efforts in support of The Right Time, Tom was invited by Sting and Trudie Styler to participate in an annual show at Carnegie Hall to benefit their charity, the Rainforest Foundation. In an evening of extraordinary performances, he shared the bill with James Taylor, George Michael, Sting, Bryan Adams, Herb Alpert, and Tina Turner. Tom was the surprise sensation of the evening, ripping through several songs with Sting and his band.

At the ripe old age of 957, poor health is taking its toll on Tom Jones. After forgetting to put on his suncream during a family Holiday in the Ty Mawr Caravan site, he contracted a fatal disease called MichaelJacksonButTheOtherWayRounditis. This meant an overexposure to the sun has caused him to become permanently black, meaning he can't go indoors without carrying an umbrella.
