After starring in a number of comedies, he tried the change to more serious movies. First there was the failed attempt Bonfire of the Vanities. His portrayal of an AIDS victim in Philadelphia won him a Best Acting Oscar and made him one of the most popular actors of the decade. During the nineties he starred in a string of successful movies, landing him the number 1 spot on the biggest box office stars of the nineties list.

Tom Hanks' love of extreme sports generated his venture into the games market, with classics such as the Tom Hanks' Proskater series, Joe vs the Volcano II and Philadelphia. Tom Hanks... known as Tom Wanks, started out in the middle ages as a camera grip. His feelings for dinosaurs was at the very least nonexistent and at most in violation of several sexual laws of physics and quantum mechanics. The problem was mainly that Hanks, who was payed to give a blow job to the cameraman, managed to appear in 80% of all the shots, thus rendering the entire film useless. Unfortunately the movie studio could not fire him on account of Hanks being a retard in combination with positive discrimination acts that needed to be followed.
