Anime Reviews Overall Tokyo Mew Mew is a fun and entertaining TV series aimed at young viewers, despite a multitude of flaws and having almost no original concepts. Considering how many weaknesses this show has, that by itself is an accomplishment. For fans of Shoujo/Magical Girl anime, Tokyo Mew Mew should be very appealing. Still, anyone watching this show will probably find themselves wishing the creators did a little more to make it stand out from the pack.

Tokyo Mew Mew Vol 1 Tokyo Mew Mew is an amazingly writen series by a very creative author. The story of five young girls, who, when infused with 'red animal' genes - or those of endangered animals - can transform in to super-heroines who set out to save the planet earth and all its inhabitants from Kish, Pie, Tart and their leader, Deep Blue; a group of alians bent on the distruction of the human populaion so as to caim the world as their own. The five girls meet as strangers, but become fast friends befor long…
AAW Tokyo Mew Mew has some entertaining villains as well. The main one, Kisshu, is a fairly competent warrior who ... has some romantic feelings for Ichigo. Apparently he doesn't realize that repeatedly trying to kill Ichigo, slaughter her friends, and purge the planet of all humans makes him an undesirable suitor. Fortunately this doesn't hurt the show. On the contrary, it gives the show some good comedic value. His teammate, Taruto, is in almost the exact opposite situation.

The cover of the first volume of Tokyo Mew Mew à la Mode Unlike the original Tokyo Mew Mew, this series does not focus on protection of the environment. However, faith in one's true love, as well as solidarity and teamwork between friends, still remains important. Berry remains with Tasuku even as he is manipulated by Duke, and it is her expression of love that brings him back; this draws a strong parallel to the original story of Ichigo Momomiya and Masaya Aoyama, which Ichigo mentions while she gives Berry advice. The Mew Mews act as a team and immediately become Berry's closest friends, even though they've never met her in their lives; when the public turns against Mew Berry, the others stand up for her without a thought. Mew Ichigo, the former powerhouse and leader of the team, is now useless without Mew Berry, possibly hinting that making more friends will make a person stronger.
Tokyo Mew Mew shares many traits with Captain Planet. It contains an environmentally friendly message that children and adults can appreciate. Periodically, factual information about actual endangered species is presented as a sort of break from the action. This manga can ... be thought of as one that can easily appeal to kids, in particular. There's even a team of 5 members -- each with unique powers -- that binds together to covertly battle for mankind.
