Titanic: Titanic Quarter
built 232 days ago
Titanic Quarter will bring new life to a part of the city that is rich in both history and potential. The site is centred upon former shipbuilding land from which vessels such as the RMS Titanic, Olympic and SS Canberra were launched - some of most innovative and complex engineering projects ever undertaken.

Three quarters into its maiden voyage - on the fringe of Newfoundland's frigid banks - the Titanic became a catastrophic nightmare. A deceptively large iceberg, detached from the polar ice fields, was drifting into the North Atlantic shipping lanes, destined to keep a predetermined encounter with the fabulous Titanic.

On 15 April 2012, the one-hundredth anniversary of the sinking of Titanic is planned to be commemorated around the world. By that date, the Titanic Quarter in Belfast is planned to have been completed. The area will be regenerated and a signature memorial project unveiled to celebrate Titanic and her links with Belfast, the city that built the ship.[72]

Well over three quarters of a century have passed since the White Star liner Titanic grazed an iceberg and went down in mid-Atlantic with over fifteen hundred passengers and crewmen still on board her. Fascination with the disaster has continued unabated ever since - and in recent years has increased dramatically as a result of the discovery of the wreck site by Dr. Robert Ballard. New books and articles about the tragedy appear with predictable regularity, and casual observers might be excused for opining that every possible nuance of the tragedy has already been explored exhaustively.
